We have been on the internet since 1997 and over the past 17 years we have “bolted on”

and generated enough scripts, codes, pieces, parts and through enough various Shopping Carts that we had indeed created our own “Frankenstein”.

By the Fall of 2013, the time had come to update our company website. We are a very old bicycle manufacturing company from NYC, and had been selling directly on the internet since 2004. We had previously been a strictly do-it-yourself web operation dating back to the mid-90’s, but knew this time we needed to enlist professional help in bringing our moderate-to-high traffic E-Commerce store up to speed. Being very protective of our backoffice, we would need exactly the right person to entrust with the job.

After sending out a few feelers through the “Shopsite recommended developers” page, Merit responded right away with a friendly, enthusiastic email and quote for the work we wanted to do. It was clear from the start she would be the one. Over the next several weeks, we had numerous productive conference calls with Merit and Tara in order to get the project going exactly the way we wanted. We made a lot of changes throughout the process, sometimes going back and forth on the same issues numerous times before we got it “just right”. In the end, we wound up modernizing the look and feel of our product pages by about 15 years. We are now able to display product overview, details, photo galleries, shipping information, “you may also like”, product reviews, and other features all in a nice, tidy package. We hope this will do wonders for our customers, as we can now provide them with substantially more information than we did before. In addition, we have a brand new shopping cart and check out screens, which are fully branded, and which should inspire confidence in our potential buyers.

I think the awards (National & International) speak volumes about the content and creativity of our web site but I wanted to outline specifically how your design and implementation has worked so well for our facility.

First and foremost, our customers the boaters, have very specific needs in that they must have current wind, tide and weather updates in order to make travel plans. The web site you created for us provides all of this information, including a live camera shot of the local bay area, as well as maps, dock sites, and an event calendar. Many of our boaters have commented on how easy it has been to navigate and use our site and they love being able to make reservations online.

Secondly, boaters like to have fun, and we are a destination marina catering to the yacht club and the weekend boater. PIER 39 is a dynamic shopping and entertainment complex and the web site has captured our “personality” with its’ innovative and interactive features such as whirling nautical emblems, barking sea lions and an animated event calendar.

Merit came highly recommended to me and I decided to take a chance using her with my most important client. The results were so good that we have worked together since on a variety of different projects. She is easy to work with, manages a range of products well and has great attention to detail. For months I had been receiving complaints from customers about how hard my website was to navigate and find the items that they were looking for. The checkout was difficult. There was no key word search option, too many pages, and on and on. It was time to find someone to upgrade and make my website more user friendly. That proved to be a difficult task as I couldn’t find anyone that wanted to tackle the project, I was being told my website had too many issues that needed fixing and no one wanted to take it on.

I finally approached Merit Lee at Digital Design Solutions and luckily she was up for the challenge. She was able to keep my current web artwork, add some custom art to it and give my site a whole new ecommerce shopping system. We worked together for weeks coming up with ideas to make my website function like it should and to my liking. Merit was always there to answer questions and show me things I didn’t even know existed or could be done. A lot of times I even got an email answer to a question at three in the morning or the wee hours of the night! All of her emails and phone calls through the whole makeover process were always professional but friendly. She would explain anything technical until I was able to grasp it and work with it.

Digital Design Solutions has been closely involved in the exciting evolution of our website. We wanted to integrate e-commerce into our six-year-old largely positioning website, and add event registration along with purchase ability for our various publications. Our events varied from three-day forums, two-day meetings and day-long workshops, requiring not just variable pricing but also integration of the pricing with our Members and non-members.

Digital Design Solutions incorporated Shopsite into our website enabling our clients to join our firm at one of three available levels which were tied to various discounts for our events. Thus event registration had to be tied not only to members and non-members, but also reflect the correct pricing when a person registered for multiple events. This information was transferred to a dynamic database that had to be manageable from our firm’s administrative back office for ease of tracking and follow-up. There were other elements like attendance at evening functions and dinners that needed to be tracked.

Website visitors and clients were also offered the ability to purchase various publications online. Merit installed Authorize Net into our existing website format which allowed credit card processing, automatic acknowledgement of receipts and event registration.

We faced several constraints; our site was rather narrow considering all the new elements that had to be instituted. Then there was a budget we needed to keep in mind. Merit and her team worked assiduously to get the site up in record time, and although we had some growing pains, most of the registration was enabled, and tracking achieved. Since that initial event, registration for workshops and other special events has been implemented.
